Carrie Underwood Defends Sound of Music Role: 'I Get Hate Tweets'
Carrie Underwood

“Carrie Underwood knows she has some big shoes to fill when she steps into the role of Maria in a live TV version of The Sound of Music in December.

“She’s playing the role made famous by Julie Andrews in the 1965 movie – something that has some die-hard fans up in arms.

“‘I get hate Tweets and stuff like, “You’re not Julie Andrews”!’…”

If you know your musical history, both old school and modern, you know that Hitler would have been intimidated by the threat of Underwood’s acerbic lyrics concerning men.  He may have balked had Underwood been in Maria von Trapps’ situation, and WWII could have been averted.
