Floating Chinese Dead Pigs Rise To Over 7500

Bill Savadove AFP March 15, 2013

Thousands of dead pigs in a Shanghai river have cast a spotlight on China’s poorly regulated farm production, with the country’s favourite meat joining a long list of food scares.

As of Friday, the number of carcasses recovered in recent days from the Huangpu river — which cuts through the commercial hub and supplies over 20 percent of its drinking water — had reached more than 7,500.

  1. To be honest, this is quite disturbing!

If the pig farmers thought the pigs had disease, why would they toss them into a river? I’m not a waste management specialist, but shouldn’t you burn or bury them? Infecting the water supply is so hazardous.

The article’s interesting, but the information is shameful, to say the least. After the whole bird flu and swine flu scares, you’d think this would be a topic of importance…sheesh!
